Bei den am 21. September 2019 erstmals verliehenen Oper! Awards wurde die Uraufführung von Detlev Glanerts Oceane unter der Leitung von Donald Runnicles als Beste Uraufführung der Spielzeit 2019 ausgezeichnet. Die Jury: „Ein faszinierendes Werk, das nach seiner erfolgreichen Uraufführung an der Deutschen Oper Berlin allen Intendanten zum Nachspielen ans Herz gelegt sei“.
Die Spielzeit 2019/20 der Deutschen Oper lockt mit spannenden Premieren. Donald Runnicles wird u.a. „Das Rheingold” und „A Midsummernight’s Dream” dirigieren. Ab dem 29.04. beginnt der allgemeine Vorverkauf. Abonnenten können ihr Programm schon ab dem 21.03. zusammenstellen.

Over the course of 2017 the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, under the direction of Donald Runnicles, has been strikingly successful in extending its potential for expression,hitherto associated with its world-famous Wagner sound, into other areas of the repertoire.
In July 2017 Donald Runnicles was awarded by Her Majesty The Queen with the Royal Society of Edinburgh Royal Medal 2017 for his outstanding contribution to the art of music at the highest international level.
